Islamabad:
The Pakistan football team's series of consecutive defeats came to an end. The Asian Cup qualifiers match against Afghanistan ended in a goalless draw. Otis Khan also lost his hopes of victory by missing a penalty.
According to the details, an interesting match took place between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the Jinnah Stadium. The host team entered the field carrying the burden of 8 consecutive defeats, but the opponent gave it a tough time.
Pakistan had several scoring opportunities against the visiting team but were unable to capitalize. Neither team was able to score in the first half.
In the 65th minute, Otis Khan was unable to capitalize on a rare chance to give the team the lead, his penalty kick going over the crossbar.
In the closing moments of the game, both teams attacked each other vigorously, but neither team was able to put the ball into the net.
More than 7,000 fans were present in the stadium to watch the match. Due to the draw, both teams earned one point each, thus giving them the opportunity to appear on the points table in Group "E" of the Asian Cup qualifiers.
It should be noted that the Afghanistan team arrived in Islamabad late due to visa issues, which put the match in jeopardy.
The issue was resolved after Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the matter. Pakistan started the campaign in the event with two consecutive defeats against Syria and Myanmar.
In the opening match played in March, Syria defeated Pakistan 0-2 at the Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in Saudi Arabia. In June 2025, the team also suffered a 1-0 defeat at the Thuwana Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
The Pakistani side will now travel to Kuwait for their next match against Afghanistan on October 14, with the group winner qualifying for the finals of the tournament scheduled in Saudi Arabia.
