The court has convicted the main accused Sanjay Roy in the rape and murder case of a lady doctor in the Indian city of Calcutta.
According to Indian media reports, the hearing of the Calcutta lady doctor rape and murder case was held in which the main accused was presented in court under tight security.
On this occasion, 300 security personnel were deployed to ensure that no one could reach the accused.
Roy was brought to the court in a convoy of three vehicles. As soon as Roy was brought, people started chanting slogans to hang Sanju Roy.
Sessions Court Judge Anirban Das found Sanjay Rai, the main accused in the RG Kar rape and murder case, guilty of the crime and announced that the sentence will be announced on Monday.
It should be noted that on August 9 last year, a lady doctor disappeared from the hospital premises, after which her body was recovered from the hostel.
The post-mortem revealed that the deceased had been brutally assaulted with sand.
The CBI took charge of the case on August 13, and charges were framed against the accused on December 4. The central agency recorded statements of over 120 witnesses.
During the 66-day in camera trial, the CBI counsel relied heavily on biological evidence, DNA samples, viscera and toxicology reports to establish Roy as the perpetrator of the crime.
It claimed that saliva swab samples and DNA samples on the victim's body matched those of Roy. The agency claimed that the victim had struggled and five force injuries were found on Roy's body.
