New research suggests that tiny pieces of plastic are changing the balance of bacteria in the human gut in exactly the same way that microbiome patterns are seen in depression and bowel cancer.

Research presented at UEG Week 2025 found that microplastics (particles smaller than 5 millimeters) subtly but clearly alter the behavior of gut bacteria, raising fresh concerns about their health.

This study directly looks for the first time at how microplastics interact with the human gut microbiome.

The researchers said the study results add to the evidence that these contaminants, found in everything from bottled water to household dust, are affecting the body in invisible ways.

This research was conducted by the Austrian CB Med Research Center with international partners under the Comet Module Program Micro One.

Recently published research has found clear evidence that women may have a higher genetic risk of depression than men.

However, all of its factors can vary, including genetic, hormonal, environmental, and social factors.

Research from Australia's Berghofer Medical Institute studied DNA data from nearly 500,000 people and found that women had about 6,000 genetic variations that increased the likelihood of depression, while men had fewer such unique variants.

This study also found similar genetic markers that are common to both sexes, but women have a higher “genetic burden,” meaning that women have more genetic variants that are related to depression.

The study also noted that genetic factors for depression in women are more associated with weight fluctuations and decreased energy, which is why women also experience symptoms of depression differently.

Additionally, women are more likely to talk about their symptoms of depression and seek help, which is why women have higher rates of reported depression than men. Men tend to hide their emotions or express them in different ways.

The scope of the research has often been limited to European populations, so it is unclear whether the same findings will apply to all regions or ethnic groups.

A modern computerized oxygen supply system has been inaugurated at Civil Hospital Karachi.

According to details, under the modern computerized oxygen supply system at Civil Hospital Karachi, oxygen supply will be centrally controlled in forty wards of all five buildings.

A separate control lock has been installed outside each ward, so that in an emergency, the supply to one ward does not affect the other wards. This is the first hospital in Sindh where such a system has been introduced.

An inauguration ceremony for the oxygen supply upgradation project was held at Civil Hospital Karachi, in which PPP leaders Senator Waqar Mehdi, Javed Nagori, and the hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr. Khalid Bukhari participated.

Senator Waqar Mehdi inaugurated the project by cutting the ribbon. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he said that the problem of oxygen supply in the Civil Hospital had been a problem for a long time, which has now been resolved through a modern computerized system.

He said that oxygen will be supplied to forty wards of all five buildings through a modern system, which can be controlled centrally. He said that this is the only hospital in Sindh where this kind of facility has been provided. The team of Civil Hospital is serving humanity and providing the best facilities to the patients of Sindh and Balochistan.

Waqar Mehdi said that if those who ask what Sindh has done come, I can show them not seventeen but seventeen hundred projects. The PPP government has always believed in public service, we believe in lighting the fire, not extinguishing it.

He further said that the fees charged in any manner in government hospitals are being reviewed. Medicines and tests are being provided free of cost in Civil, Jinnah or any government hospital.

MS Civil Hospital Dr. Khalid Bukhari said that the oxygen upgradation project with the cooperation of the Sindh government and the health department has cost Rs 40 million to 50 million. More development projects are also under completion, including the construction of a new tower and an emergency block. He said that the Sindh Health Minister is focusing on the Civil Hospital.

A new study has found that a diet rich in fiber may prevent or reduce the risk of a common liver disease (caused by dietary fructose).

Fat accumulation from consuming large amounts of fructose (especially the added sweetener found in processed foods like soft drinks) can cause liver damage.

This condition can cause a type of fatty liver disease, the symptoms of which include inflammation, scarring, and permanent liver damage.

According to researchers, this liver disease is difficult to diagnose due to the weight of patients.

Past studies have shown that if this condition is left untreated, it can also lead to heart disease.

Physical exercise is a very important means of training and strengthening the immune system.

Exercise increases blood circulation, which helps to find and fight pathogens.

Regular moderate exercise reduces levels of inflammatory markers and increases the production of anti-inflammatory antibodies.

Second, exercise improves sleep and reduces stress. When a person is sleep deprived or stressed, excess cortisol and other hormones can weaken the immune system. Exercise helps to control these factors.

Exercise improves the levels of immune cells such as IgA, IgG, IgM, especially in the mouth, nose, throat, etc., which enables early fight against infection.

Exercise reduces the risk of diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, and other chronic diseases that can weaken the immune system, improving overall immunity.

A new technique using a simple cheek swab (taking cells from the inside of the mouth) to identify genetic mutations in healthy tissue could be an effective tool for cancer prevention, scientists have said in a new study.

A team led by the Wellcome Sanger Institute (who collaborated with King's College London's Twins UK research) has further improved nano-rate sequencing, a method that allows scientists to study genetic changes with unprecedented precision.

These DNA changes, called somatic mutations, occur naturally with age and are usually harmless. However, some mutations give cells the ability to grow faster, meaning they can replicate themselves.

These lumps have the potential to become early stages of cancer.

For this study, researchers used NanoSeq to analyze 371 blood samples along with cheek swabs from 1042 people participating in the Twins UK study.

The analysis looked at more than 340,000 mutations in the cheek cells. This included more than 62,000 genes known to cause cancer, while 49 genes had mutations that gave the cells the ability to grow.

Scientists in Spain have claimed to have reduced the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in mice using nanoparticles, and they say the technique could be used on humans in the future.

Nanoparticles, invisible to the naked eye, have a diameter of less than 200 nanometers (about 0.25% of the width of a human hair).

These nanoparticles, injected into the body, repair the blood-brain barrier, a region of abundant cells and blood vessels that protect the brain.

In Alzheimer's disease, this barrier is damaged, which allows a toxic protein called amyloid-beta to accumulate in the brain, which is thought to be the root cause of the disease.

Giuseppe Battaglia, professor and head of research at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona, described the technique as "remarkable" and believes it could be used in humans in the next few years.

They said that research suggests that when this barrier is repaired and reactivated, the brain's ability to clear harmful proteins and its function improve.

A nationwide anti-polio campaign is set to begin on October 13.

Almost all of us don't pay attention to the colors of our clothes when we wear them, but the color of our clothes can also affect our health in many ways. Colors have an impact on various physical and psychological functions, from our skin to our behavior.

Different colored clothes have the following effects on the body and mind:

Dark colors: Dark-colored clothes absorb more sunlight, which can make you feel hotter, sweat more, and cause sunburn.

Light colors: Light-colored clothes reflect sunlight, which keeps your skin cool and reduces heat or discomfort.

Similarly, the colors of clothing can also affect the mood and physical functions of the wearer.

Psychology

Color can affect your mood, physical reactions, and even the mood of those around you.

Internal body changes

Certain colors can also be associated with physiological changes such as increased blood pressure, metabolism, and eye strain.

'Toxic' colors

Some manufacturers add synthetic compounds to dyes that can cause genetic mutations and cancer-causing substances in fabrics.

It was 1945. In a laboratory in the United States, animals were fed dried mycelium, a type of fungus. After a few weeks, the researchers found that the animals gained more weight than animals that were not eating mycelium. They were quite surprised.

Now they began to investigate how the animals that ate the fungus gained weight. The research showed that a microbe or bacterium, chlortetracycline, which is found in the mycelium, played a key role in this growth. Thus, mankind learned for the first time that certain types of bacteria make animals gain weight rapidly. Today, science has discovered all these types.

Now, all over the world, the help of these bacteria is being taken to increase the weight of cows, buffaloes, pigs, camels, chickens, ducks, etc., which are available in the market in the form of antibiotics. Gradually, American scientists also discovered that if chickens and cattle are given certain antibiotics, their growth increases more rapidly, that is, they grow faster. Later, antibiotics were also given to chickens and cattle to protect them from diseases caused by bacteria. Even today, antibiotics are widely used in chicken and cattle production for both purposes around the world. This process has both advantages and disadvantages.

What does science say?

Initially, scientists did not understand how antibiotics increased the growth rate of chickens and animals. In the 21st century, as medical science made significant progress, the mechanism by which these drugs accelerate the growth process in livestock and poultry was gradually understood. It was found that microorganisms present in the animal's food absorb most of the nutrients in this food. Thus, due to lack of nutrition, the growth of the animal also remains slow.

It was also revealed that these microorganisms do not allow nutrients to be absorbed into the body when they reach the intestines. They also produce acids that affect the health of the animal. But when antibiotics are added to the feed or food, they kill most of the microorganisms. Those that survive are unable to do their job properly because of the drugs.

There is also a theory that chickens and cattle raised in unhealthy environments develop many infections. These infections weaken their immune systems. For example, most infections produce proteins called cytokines in the body. Due to these, some catabolic (chemical) processes occur in the body that cause some muscle loss. But the use of antibiotics does not produce cytokine proteins, thus muscle growth occurs rapidly.

Prevention of infection

Usually, chickens or cattle raised for food are kept in large numbers in a small space. There is a lack of health and sanitation facilities in this place. This is the reason, germs spread very quickly in such places, which would kill many livestock within a few days. But the use of antibiotics has greatly reduced the mortality rate in them. Thus, another significant benefit of these drugs has come to light.

During this time, modern methods of raising livestock also emerged. For example, research in genetics led to the creation of breeds that grew faster and had stronger immune systems that were less susceptible to infection. Animals were then raised in controlled environments where they had access to the right amount of heat, light, and humidity. In addition, minerals and vitamins were discovered that boosted the growth of poultry and livestock.

Livestock revolution

Along with antibiotics, the above changes have revolutionized the poultry and livestock sector worldwide. Now, in a much shorter time than before, chickens, cows, buffaloes, goats, camels, and pigs have become available to humans. Not only this, their weight has also increased. With the increase in the supply of poultry, the price of their meat has also decreased and now the common man has started getting protein by eating meat more days a week than before.

Scientific research has shown that even if the feed containing antibiotics is consumed in small amounts, chickens and livestock can still be satisfied. The cost of feed is a significant part of the cost of raising livestock. Therefore, when chickens and livestock started eating less food, the farmers benefited financially and their expenses decreased. Then, the animals' short-term preparation and weight gain also benefited them financially.

The meat of chickens treated with antibiotics was also found to be of good quality because it had less fat. While the meat of poultry whose diet did not include antibiotics was found to have more fat. These drugs also increased the egg-laying ability of chickens. Furthermore, the drugs also improved the health of the poultry because they became less susceptible to infections.

After 1950, the benefits of antibiotics gradually came to light, and they became an essential element in livestock farming. They brought considerable financial benefits to poultry and cattle farmers, so their use continued to increase. Even today, several hundred thousand kilograms of antibiotics are used in the livestock sector every year. Commercial poultry and cattle farmers say that these drugs have become an indispensable part of their business because they have helped chickens and cattle grow efficiently and their business has become profitable. But over the past few decades, these drugs have also become controversial.

The first conflict

Medical experts on social media claim that chicken and cattle meat contain antibiotic effects. Therefore, new disorders have arisen in humans after eating this meat. For example, their faces and bodies swell. Inflammation increases in the body. Reproductive power is affected. If a person eats such meat in large quantities, he may also suffer from a harmful disease like cancer. If a person consumes meat or milk from animals that have taken antibiotics, he also becomes a victim of high blood pressure and type 1 diabetes.

Medical experts working in livestock say that antibiotics are given to animals in a controlled manner. Their dosage is very small. Therefore, their effects do not appear in the meat or milk of the animal. Therefore, the theory that the meat or milk of animals taking antibiotics causes diseases in humans is wrong.

Modern medical science has not yet been able to find any solid reason through research or experiments that would prove that a person contracted any disease by eating meat or drinking milk from animals that have taken antibiotics. Research has shown that various factors combined to create a single disease. It seems that no solid scientific evidence has been found so far that would declare livestock taking antibiotics to be harmful to health.

Second conflict

This is because by taking antibiotics, animals are spreading germs around the world that are resistant to conventional antibiotics. That is, these drugs do not affect them and cannot kill them. The process of germs developing the ability to compete against antibiotics is called "antibiotic resistance".

It should be remembered that every living organism struggles to survive. Since bacteria are also living organisms, they also try their best to make changes in their genetic material that would help them neutralize the antibiotics used against them. In the past, antibiotics were only given to humans and their use was limited. Moreover, doctors would only prescribe these drugs when an infection appeared. But when antibiotics were widely adopted in livestock, their use increased. In addition, ordinary people also started using them to cure minor diseases.

The disadvantage of the widespread use of antibiotics was that new types of bacteria gradually emerged whose genetic material contained resistance to them. Thus, at first it was difficult to eliminate them with antibiotics, and then many types of bacteria eventually became incurable. That is, they are no longer killed by any of the old antibiotics.

These new germs are especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and the sick because their immune systems are weakened. Therefore, God forbid, they get an infection that produces antibiotic-resistant germs, and their lives are at risk. These antibiotic-resistant germs are making millions of people sick every year, and hundreds of them die due to complications and weakness.

Under sanctions

Due to the spread of antibiotic resistance, the United States banned the use of antibiotics to increase the weight of chickens and livestock in 2017. Later, the same ban was imposed in China, the United Kingdom and other European countries. However, in the United States, these drugs can be used in livestock to prevent diseases. The European Union has also banned this practice. If a chicken or cattle becomes infected on a farm in Europe, it is separated from the rest of the animals.

In Pakistan, India and other developing countries, various antibiotics are being used openly in livestock to help them gain weight, grow faster and protect them from diseases. However, the widespread use of these drugs is increasing antibiotic resistance in the human population, which is a matter of great concern. Therefore, the use of these drugs must be limited in all countries, including Pakistan, otherwise human health may be at serious risk.

The reason is obvious. If the widespread use of antibiotics in livestock and agriculture continues, new, resistant bacteria will also emerge in large numbers. They could then kill millions of people every year because there will be no antibiotics to kill them.

A solution

Therefore, it has become very important to find a middle ground. For example, antibiotics should be reserved for animals and agriculture. That is, they should not be used on humans. While the drugs that humans use should not be used on animals. In this way, antibiotic resistance can be limited. While the benefits that livestock and agriculture are getting from the drugs will continue to be received.

Remember, inventing a new antibiotic is a very long and expensive process. Since antibiotic resistance in modern times makes a new antibiotic ineffective very quickly, pharmaceutical companies are not making them because they do not make a profit by making them, but usually they make a loss. This is another problem that mankind has suffered.

In the winter, while many other physical problems bother us, dryness becomes more prominent, causing symptoms of itching and scratching on the body and dandruff and hair loss on the scalp.

To protect against cold, the consumption of nutritious and warm foods in our diet increases. In addition, due to the significant decrease in water consumption, dryness in the skin cells increases quickly. Wearing warm clothes continuously does not provide the required oxygen to the skin pores, which increases the skin problems. In the article under consideration, we will talk about hair problems due to seasonal changes.

There is no doubt that hair problems have become more severe in women and men these days, but in winter, hair loss, dullness, dryness, dandruff and itching increase. Along with this, even in normal days, premature graying of hair, split ends and hair loss are so severe that men and women are unable to get rid of these problems despite their efforts.

Our hair is a fundamental and essential part of our beautiful personality. Like other body parts, it also requires our full attention, good nutrition and a favorable environment. It is a common observation that even today, people who bathe daily, apply oil to their hair and protect it from dust and dirt, their hair remains a little safer and stronger than others. A simple example of our hair is that of a plant.

Plants grown in the same type of soil appear in different states due to differences in care, climate, and nutrition. Plants that receive timely water, fertilizer, and good care are healthier, stronger, more vigorous, and more vigorous than others. On the contrary, plants grown in the same type of soil appear weak, wilted, and lifeless due to lack of proper nutrition, environment, and good care.

The same thing happens with our hair. To maintain the black color of our hair, it is essential to include a certain amount of iron and copper in our diet. It is also considered necessary to have sufficient amounts of elements like keratin and melanin in the body to strengthen the hair.

For hair growth, it is also essential to have the required amounts of sulfur, zinc, iodine, and chlorine in our blood. Most importantly, the presence of sufficient oxygen in the blood and adequate blood flow to the head are also considered essential for the protection, growth, and strength of hair.

Now consider for yourself how balanced our diet is? Have we ever kept this aspect in mind while taking our food? Our eating and drinking routine is just about filling our stomachs, getting pleasure and enjoying ourselves. The only solution to avoid all kinds of hair problems lies in eating quality, good, balanced and nutritious food. From today, check your diet, understand the difference between useful and harmful and eat a little but choose good and quality food.

Consume plenty of calcium, magnesium, chlorine, zinc, sulfur, copper and iron nutrients. Consume plenty of milk, butter, yogurt, desi ghee, spinach, fish, eggs, garlic, cabbage, banana, potato, sweet potato, ginger, black pepper, grapes, apples, pomegranate, kidney beans, black and white gram, barley porridge, carrots, mismi, murba hard, murba amla, murba bahi, almond kernels, walnut kernels, fennel and other similar fruits and vegetables. You will see that in two to three months, not only your hair problems have started to resolve, but many other disorders will also leave you behind.

In terms of treatment, all those whose hair is becoming brittle and dull due to dryness and dandruff can try the following home remedy to get rid of dryness and dandruff. Grind 100 grams of henna leaves, 100 grams of dried amla, 100 grams of kalonji and 300 grams of dal mash finely and mix them with 2 to 3 tablespoons of yogurt and apply it on the hair up to the roots. Leave it on for 2 hours and wash your hair. You will get relief from dry scalp, dandruff, hair loss, brittle hair, brittleness and itching caused by seasonal effects in a few days.

Similarly, people whose hair is prone to premature graying and falling out should use a mixture of the following oils. Take 250 ml of coconut oil, 250 ml of almond oil, 250 ml of castor oil and 250 ml of marigold oil and add an equal weight of mustard oil to them. Keep this oil mixture in the sun for ten days and keep shaking it periodically. After ten days, wash your hair and apply this oil to your head and massage it continuously for 15 minutes with your fingertips. Keep in mind that when the metabolism is slow or bad, the food consumed is not digested and becomes a part of the body, thus, hair problems also start to bother you as a result of malnutrition.

In your daily diet, it is essential to consume seasonal fruits, fruit juices and raw vegetables such as radish, turnip, carrot, cabbage and tomato as much as possible. Also include mismi, quinoa, carrot and apple juice in your diet as needed. Adequate amount of clean and clear water should also be consumed daily.

To improve metabolism and digestion, drink a coffee made from cumin, fennel, and cardamom powder once a day.

Avoid fast food, broilers, large meats, fried foods, cold drinks, excessive rice and heavy foods. Avoid unnecessary consumption of nicotine and caffeine-containing foods such as tea, coffee, cigarettes, etc. Make brisk walking and exercise for about half an hour in the morning and evening a part of your routine. Negative emotions like jealousy, stinginess, malice, anger, hatred, disappointment, negative thinking and arrogance can also cause hair problems by reducing mental abilities.

Positive thoughts, hope, courage, tolerance, endurance, love, humility and sacrifice bring peace of mind and heart. Believe me, peace of mind and heart is the only and best solution to all problems. Follow our suggestions and see, by the grace of God, you will soon get rid of all your hair problems. Be careful and avoid following the tips and tricks that are viral on social media, as well as the advice of various so-called experts.

Allopathic medicines used to treat various diseases are a great discovery of this century. Although these medicines are effective and provide quick relief, while eliminating the disease, they can also leave some effects that have nothing to do with the treatment of the disease. These additional and unnecessary effects are called side effects.

Almost all allopathic medicines are associated with various side effects. These effects can be minor and sometimes even fatal. Indiscriminate and unnecessary use of medicines in private practice can pose many risks to human health. Therefore, it is important that various types of allopathic medicines should always be used under the advice of a doctor and the instructions given by the doctor should be kept in mind while using them.

Using medicines without a doctor's advice and on your own is very harmful to your health. The side effects of these medicines can be life-threatening. For example, excessive use of aspirin can cause stomach ulcers.

Shock caused by penicillin and various types of antibiotics can also lead to death. Similarly, taking medications on your own can be a cause of jaundice and kidney stones. The liver is most affected by the unnecessary use of various types of medications. Because the liver acts as the biochemical laboratory of the human body. Therefore, it is important to avoid self-medication and use medications under the advice of a doctor in case of various diseases.

In addition, by using drugs on their own, the patient becomes addicted to them. In the beginning, some drug is taken continuously on its own to relieve pain or anxiety. After that, the body becomes accustomed to this drug and eventually the result is that it becomes difficult to live without it, as happens in heroin addiction.

The thoughtless and unnecessary use of antibiotics, steroids, tranquillisers for minor ailments is very dangerous. This habit may provide temporary relief but later becomes a cause of lifelong problems. Continuous use of these medicines starts damaging the kidneys, liver and other organs of the body. To avoid all these harms, it is better to always take the medicine after consulting a doctor.
