A new clinical trial has found that low doses of the common fever medicine aspirin reduce the chances of stomach cancer coming back after tumor surgery.
More than two million people worldwide are diagnosed with colorectal cancer each year. 40 percent of patients face the risk of tumor cells spreading from the stomach to other parts of the body, making the disease more difficult to treat.
Previous studies have suggested that aspirin may reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease after surgery in colorectal cancer patients.
In the new clinical trial, researchers studied the effects of aspirin on 3,500 patients with colon and rectal cancer from 33 hospitals in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
