Another case of polio has been reported from Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the number of reported cases in 2024 to 72.


A statement issued by the Polio Eradication Program said that samples of a girl resident of DI Khan were taken on December 31, and upon receiving the test report, she was confirmed to have polio.

According to the announcement, polio virus type 1 was found in a girl resident of DI Khan. After this, the total number of polio cases in DI Khan during the past year has reached 11.

Of the polio cases reported in Pakistan so far, 27 have been reported from Balochistan, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
