Islamabad:

The government has declared Wi-Fi networks as insecure. In this regard, the National Information Technology Board has issued an advisory to all institutions regarding security threats to wireless networks.

The advisory warns about the cybersecurity risks and security measures faced in using Wi-Fi networks and asks all institutions to take security measures when using Wi-Fi.

In the context of cybersecurity threats, it has become clear that default security configurations, and lack of user awareness, allow malicious individuals to gain permanent access to networks or systems, install malware, and steal sensitive information.

The recommendations include changing default credentials and using strong and unique passwords to access the router's web or CLI interface, ensuring maximum password length and complexity to make security effective and robust, as well as using secure encryption protocols and adopting the WPA3 protocol.

Keep changing the default SSID and hide this ID, do not broadcast the WiFi name.
