Details of the court decision on how Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were found guilty in the £190 million case are available.
In a hearing held at Adiala Jail, the accountability court delivered a reserved verdict in the 190 million pound case, under which founding chairman PTI Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison and his wife Bushra Bibi to 7 years.
According to the court decision, the founder of PTI has been sentenced under Section 10-A of the NAB Ordinance 1999. The founder of PTI is found guilty. According to the decision, Imran Khan was found involved in corruption.
The court wrote in the decision that if convicted, he will be sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 million, while in case of failure to pay the fine, the PTI founder will have to serve another 6 months in prison.
Similarly, the court said in its verdict that Bushra Bibi is proven guilty of aiding and abetting the crime. Bushra Bibi is sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under NAB Ordinance 10A.
Bushra Bibi was also sentenced to a fine of Rs. 500,000, and in case of failure to pay the fine, she will be imprisoned for another 3 months.
According to the court decision, Al-Qadir Trust University is confiscated by the government. Al-Qadir University is placed under the custody of the federal government.
The accountability court wrote in its verdict that the defense lawyers in the 190 million pounds reference could not refute the prosecution's evidence. The prosecution's case was based on documentary evidence that was proven to be correct. The prosecution presented solid, authentic, coherent, undeniable, reliable, and dependable evidence.
According to the verdict, even the lengthy cross-examination of several witnesses, including the investigating officer, could not sway him. Their testimonies were consistent and coherent. There may be minor discrepancies, which is natural in white-collar crime. Despite ample opportunities, he could not refute the prosecution's position.
The court further wrote in the verdict that the documentary evidence presented in defense of the accused was also worthless. The legal references presented by the defense lawyers were also irrelevant to the facts of the case. In light of the evidence, the acquittal applications of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi are also rejected.
The court directed that copies of the verdict be provided to the convicts free of charge, and wrote in the verdict that the convicts could appeal against the verdict to the relevant forum if they wished.
