Following the signing of the hostage release agreement with Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by telephone with US President Donald Trump, in which the two leaders congratulated each other on this historic development.
During the telephone conversation, Netanyahu called the agreement a major diplomatic success and a “national and moral victory” for Israel. “As a result of the military action and the strong diplomatic efforts led by President Trump, we have reached a turning point,” he said.
Netanyahu praised the US president's leadership, his partnership and his commitment to defending Israel, saying, "We are grateful for President Trump's unwavering commitment to the freedom of our hostages."
According to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu also formally invited the US President to address the Israeli parliament (Knesset).
It should be noted that Israel and Hamas recently signed the first phase of the US-proposed Gaza peace proposals. US President Trump said in announcing the agreement that under it, all hostages would be released soon, while Israeli forces would withdraw to the agreed border line.
This agreement is being hailed as an important step towards ending the long-running conflict in the Middle East, and has received positive international response.
