Canada has warned that if the US starts a trade war, Trump will impose tariffs in response.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said at a press conference in Washington that if US President-elect Donald Trump increases customs duties on Canadian products, a Trump tax will be imposed on Americans in retaliation. We are ready to exert maximum pressure on our part.

The Canadian Foreign Minister further said that if the US starts a trade war against us, it will be the biggest trade war between Canada and the US in decades. If Trump imposes taxes, Canada has also prepared countermeasures.

US President-elect Donald Trump said in a statement that he would impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from Canada as part of his economic and foreign policy plan. Trump's proposed policy would also increase customs duties on imports from Mexico, China and other trading partners. The implementation of Trump's proposed policy would have a huge impact on Canadian consumers and their jobs.

Canadian government sources in Ottawa told a foreign news agency that in response to the US tax, Canadian authorities are considering increasing customs duties on goods coming from the US. In the first phase, the Canadian government will increase taxes on American steel products, ceramics for toilets and sinks, glassware and orange juice, which could also be extended.
