Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone has once again become the center of discussion on social media, this time for her wearing an abaya in a promotional video for Abu Dhabi.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, was released in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, and features Deepika Padukone and her husband Ranveer Singh, who are brand ambassadors. The video shows the two of them visiting the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
In the highlights taken at the museum and mosque, Deepika was seen in a burgundy abaya, but her Indian fans were offended by her wearing the hijab, criticizing her for going against her famous statement of "freedom of expression" by wearing the hijab.
However, some fans clarified that it was an abaya, which is considered appropriate attire for women when entering a mosque, and that wearing a hijab is also part of Arab culture.
Some users mocked her, referencing her 2015 short film 'My Choice', while her supporters said Deepika was simply respecting local traditions.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that the actress has been seen in traditional attire at religious or cultural places. Earlier, she and Ranveer have also been seen in traditional attire during religious rituals at various temples and gurdwaras.
