Moscow/Dushanbe: Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his strong support for US President Donald Trump's ceasefire and peace plan in Gaza, saying that the establishment of an independent state in Palestine is essential for lasting peace in the region.
Speaking at the Russia-Central Asia summit in Dushanbe, Putin said, “Russia has immediately supported the proposals that President Trump has put forward. We hope that this peace plan will be implemented.”
He added that this plan has also been positively received in the Arab and Islamic world, and its implementation is crucial for lasting stability in the region.
Putin made it clear that Russia has always believed in a political and diplomatic solution to Middle East problems and that Moscow will support any effort to end the bloodshed and establish peace.
“The most essential condition for long-term stability in the Middle East is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” he said.
US President Donald Trump presented a 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza on September 29, under which approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners would be released in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages, a permanent ceasefire would be established, and the Israeli military would withdraw from Gaza in phases.
The second phase of the plan includes proposals to establish a new government structure in Gaza, disarm Hamas, create a joint security force of Arab and Islamic countries, and provide financial assistance for the reconstruction of Gaza.
Arab and Islamic countries have generally welcomed the plan, but some leaders say that many aspects of it require further discussion and negotiation.
