Islamabad:

The FIA has arrested five people on charges of making a fake video of Maryam Nawaz’s meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested five people for allegedly creating a fake video generated using artificial intelligence (AI) of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and making it viral on social media.

The FIA's Cyber Crime Cell arrested the suspects from Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Multan.

According to sources, more arrests are expected during this operation and the scope of the investigation is being expanded. A case will be registered against the accused under the Cyber Crime Act.

FIA sources say that this action was initiated under inquiry number 169 in Faisalabad on the complaint of Shahid Sharif, after which case number 7/24 was registered against the accused Shahzad Munawar.

Accused Shahzad Munawar is involved in sharing AI-generated derogatory content against foreigners on social media.

According to the investigation, the purpose of this fake video was to damage diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, in which an attempt was made to defame Pakistani dignitaries and political activists.

The FIA has obtained a technical report related to the creation and viralization of this AI content, through which the identity of the accused and the action taken have been further clarified.

FIA officials say that the investigation is ongoing and strict action will be taken against the accused based on further evidence.
