A woman in Australia has been arrested for allegedly poisoning a one-year-old child and posting a video of the incident on social media in an attempt to gain followers and donations.

According to a foreign news agency, a 34-year-old woman from the state of Queensland (whose name was not disclosed) allegedly fed the infant multiple medications between August 6 and October 15, 2024, without any medical approval or prescription.

The woman was reported in local media as the child's mother, but police have not yet confirmed this.

The woman is accused of raising more than $37,000 through GoFundMe by promoting a video of the girl's suffering. And now the online platform is working to refund the money of those who donated after the woman's fraud was exposed.

According to Queensland Police, the woman ignored medical advice regarding the child's condition (which had led to her admission to hospital). The woman went to extreme lengths to obtain unprescribed medication and administer it to the child, who did not improve her condition.

The woman's plan came to light when medical staff at Brisbane Hospital (where the girl was being treated) became suspicious of the woman and called the police.

After launching an investigation, police spoke to medical experts and reviewed the woman's social media, which revealed that the girl had been given unprescribed medications.
