SHARM EL-SHEIKH:
Important negotiations are underway in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh to end the two-year-long bloody war in Gaza, with Egypt and the United States playing the role of mediators between the Palestinian organization Hamas and Israeli representatives.
According to sources, Hamas has put forward several important conditions for a ceasefire, including the release of six leading Palestinian prisoners and the provision of large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Hamas delegation is led by senior leader Khalil al-Hayyah, who has appeared in public for the first time since the Israeli attack.
The US President's son-in-law and special envoy for the Middle East, Jared Kushner, and US diplomat Steve Witkoff are also participating in the talks.
The focus of the negotiations is on lists of hostages and political prisoners, which are being discussed to pave the way for possible releases.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt says President Donald Trump wants the prisoners to be released as soon as possible so that negotiations can move to the next phase.
On the other hand, President Trump expressed concern over the delay in the negotiation process and said that the ceasefire should be finalized without wasting time, otherwise if Hamas refuses to relinquish control of Gaza, it will have to face serious consequences.
