Peshawar:

The PTI leadership, in an important meeting late last night, expressed confidence in Sohail Afridi for the Chief Ministership and summoned a session of the Pakhtunkhwa Assembly today.

According to sources, an extraordinary meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership and members of the assembly was held late at night at the Speaker's House, in which a large number of members of the assembly, including PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, Provincial President Junaid Akbar, and others, participated.

The meeting was also attended by Sohail Afridi, the nominated candidate for Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI leadership and members of the assembly unanimously expressed confidence in Sohail Afridi and officially nominated him as the candidate for Chief Minister.

Sources say that the meeting also decided to implement the constitutional and parliamentary procedure for electing the Chief Minister.

Sources further said that due to constitutional complications in Ali Amin Gandapur's resignation, a new, handwritten resignation has been prepared which will be sent to the governor. According to party insiders, there will be no need to bring a no-confidence motion after the new resignation.

PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar said after the meeting that we currently have 92 votes and the target is to get 100 votes. He said that contacts are also ongoing with other parties for the election of the Chief Minister.

According to sources, a meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been called for today at 3 pm, in which a formal response will be given to the recent allegations made against the PTI.

Following this development, the political atmosphere in the province has become increasingly heated, and the next 24 hours could prove decisive.
