American streaming platform Netflix has introduced a new feature for its users, offering the facility of playing video games on TV. Under this new feature, users will be able to play games on the big screen using their mobile phone as a controller.
According to foreign media reports, Netflix co-chief executive Greg Peters announced at the Bloomberg Screen Time conference that this initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in the world of entertainment, and the company is developing social games that friends and family can play together.
In the initial phase, Netflix has introduced some popular games including Boggle Party, Tetris Time Warp, Pictionary Game Night and Lego Party. Now users will be able to play games through smart TVs or streaming devices like Roku, while mobile phones will have to scan a QR code to connect as a controller.
Netflix is strengthening its position in the sector by improving its long-term planning and cloud systems, according to Alain Taskin, head of the gaming division. The company aims to transform its streaming service into a comprehensive entertainment platform rather than limiting it to just movies and dramas.
