Islamabad:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blamed the slow internet speeds after the Web Management System (VPM) on telecom infrastructure, and the PTA has cited fiberization, spectrum shortages, and energy issues as new reasons for the slow internet.
According to the PTA document, security and power backup of telecom sites are a major challenge.
Over the past five years, 147 telecom sites have been targeted by terrorists and 739 by thieves.
There are also complaints of theft of generators and other telecom equipment from telecom sites. 42 percent of telecom sites are operating without generators, sites without generators cause services to be affected during load shedding.
The web management system has never detected any internet slowdown. Trans World is working to connect Africa to Pakistan via cable. The 45,000-kilometer cable has a capacity of 18 terabytes per second.
According to the PTA document, this cable will help increase bandwidth and improve internet speed.
