The Indian government has confirmed that 12 Indian citizens were killed during the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to the international news agency, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that 126 Indians were recruited into the Russian army.
The statement said that of these, 96 Indians have returned home, but so far 12 Indian soldiers have been killed fighting on the side of Russia.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs statement further stated that 16 other Indians fighting on the Russian side are still missing. The Russian government is also not aware of them.
A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that two Indian citizens are still part of the Russian army and are involved in the war against Ukraine.
It should be remembered that a few days ago, an investigative report published in Indian newspapers revealed that most Indians were forced or coerced into fighting.
These reports stated that these Indians were employed in the Russian army as cashiers, cooks, or other civilian workers.
However, as soon as the war in Ukraine began, these Indians were also forcibly sent to the battlefield.
In addition, some Indians were sent to Russia by travel agents under the pretext of labor and other jobs, where they were recruited into the army.
However, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not yet said anything about the investigation conducted in this regard.
