Washington: The United States has imposed new sanctions on dozens of companies, individuals and vessels associated with Iran's oil sector.
According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctions target entities and individuals that facilitate the export and shipment of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), including a Chinese port and the 'Tea Pot' oil refinery.
The US State Department has also imposed sanctions on 40 more companies and individuals, including major buyers of Iranian petrochemical products and senior officials involved in the trade.
The move comes two weeks after the United Nations announced the reimposition of "snapback" sanctions on Iran over its nuclear and missile programs.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that the US is weakening Iran's financial resources by dismantling the infrastructure of its energy export machine.
The sanctions also include the Chinese company Shandong Jincheng Petrochemical Group , which is accused of buying millions of barrels of oil from Iran since 2023. Similarly, a Chinese company in Linshan Port has been banned, which was allegedly hosting ships that were involved in clandestine shipments of Iranian oil.
This is the fourth round of sanctions imposed on oil refineries in China since President Donald Trump took office again in January 2025.
According to the US Treasury Department, the assets of all these individuals and entities in the US have been frozen, while US citizens and companies have been prevented from doing any business with them.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said that as long as Iran continues to seek to generate oil revenue for its "subversive ambitions," the United States will continue to confront it.
