Italy is supplying deadly weapons to Israel, which are being used for genocide in Gaza

In a case filed at the International Criminal Court, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been accused of aiding Israel in its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by providing weapons.

According to the international news agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed that the lawsuit against her was filed on October 1 by about 50 lawyers, legal experts and leading public figures.

According to him, the names of Italian Defense Minister Guido Crocetto, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Roberto Cingolani, head of the arms company Leonardo, have also been included in the case and accused of aiding and abetting genocide.

The complainants argue that Italy provided Israel with lethal weapons that are being used to commit genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in the ongoing war in Gaza.

The lawsuit calls on the International Criminal Court to conduct a formal investigation into the complaint against Italy and take action against those responsible.

The Italian Prime Minister said in a TV interview that in my opinion, there is no example of this type of complaint anywhere else in the world.

However, Italian Defense Minister Crocetto says that the weapons supplied to Israel are only being supplied under agreements that were concluded before October 7, 2023, that is, before the Gaza war.

He added that despite this, Italy has received assurances from Israel that these weapons will not be used against civilians.

Earlier, Italian Foreign Minister Tajani claimed that Italy had stopped supplying weapons to Israel.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Italy was among the few countries that supplied large quantities of weapons to Israel between 2020 and 2024.

Including helicopters and naval guns. In addition, Italy is also among the countries producing parts for the F-35 aircraft, led by the United States.

The complaint comes at a time when the ICC has also issued warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. However, they have not been charged with "genocide."

In addition, South Africa has filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), while Nicaragua has made similar allegations against Germany, but in April 2025 the court refused to proceed with the case.

The United States, which supplies the largest number of weapons to Israel, is not a member of the ICC and has strongly opposed the court's actions.

Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio imposed sanctions on three Palestinian human rights organizations that played a role in the investigation against Israeli officials at the ICC.

On the other hand, posters of Prime Minister Meloni were carried in mass protests in Italy in recent weeks, calling him an "accomplice to genocide."

This case, registered at the ICC, is not only increasing public pressure on the Italian government, but could also be a precursor to legal and diplomatic difficulties at the international level.
