Jerusalem:

The Israeli cabinet has approved the outline of a ceasefire plan presented by US President Donald Trump, which would allow for the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

A brief statement issued by Prime Minister Netanyahu's office only mentioned the release of the hostages, while other controversial points of the agreement were left out of the statement.

This approval is being hailed as a major step towards ending the devastating two-year war in the Middle East.

The agreement includes the release of prisoners by Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the opening of the Rafah border crossing, and the restoration of humanitarian aid.

A senior Hamas official outlined the key points of the agreement in a speech, saying that peace is possible if Israel shows seriousness. Meanwhile, Israeli attacks are continuing, resulting in more deaths reported in Gaza.

The war began with a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, in which Israel says 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

In response to this attack, Israel launched intense air and ground operations in Gaza, as a result of which, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been martyred so far, more than half of whom are women and children, while the number of injured has exceeded 170,000.

Israeli attacks continued in Gaza on Thursday night. At least two people were killed and more than 40 were buried under rubble after a residential building was hit in Gaza City.

Palestinian officials say Israel is deliberately continuing attacks to undermine ceasefire talks.

However, the Israeli military maintains that it is only targeting targets that could pose a threat to its forces.
