Scientists in China have created a cassette tape that can store all the songs ever recorded.
The team from the Southern University of Science and Technology in Guangdong Province, China, achieved this feat by printing synthetic DNA onto plastic tape and protecting it with 'crystal armor'.
These 100-metre-long DNA tapes can store 36 petabytes of data (the equivalent of 36,000 terabyte hard drives).
Given the increase in the amount of data globally, scientists said that this multi-storage method could be used as an alternative to traditional methods.
Researchers said that semiconductor-based non-volatile memory has reached the limit of Moore's Law, requiring new media to store extremely large amounts of data.
