Novak Djokovic has reached a major milestone

Melbourne: Renowned tennis star Novak Djokovic broke Roger Federer's record for playing the most singles matches as he reached the third round of the Australian Open.

According to international media reports, the 37-year-old player won the 430th Grand Slam singles match in Melbourne by defeating Jaime Faria 6-1 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-2.

Djokovic then became the only player to win the most Grand Slam singles matches played, both men's and women's.

This record was previously held by Djokovic's former rival Federer, who played his last match at Wimbledon in 2021.

"I love this game and competing, I try to give my best every time. It's been over 20 years since I've been competing in Grand Slams at the highest level," Djokovic said on reaching the milestone.

He said, "Whether you win or lose the match, I will leave my heart on the court forever. I am very happy to set a new record."
