Major progress possible on Gaza ceasefire between Israel and Hamas: Turkish Foreign Minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that a consensus between Israel and Hamas is possible today, and if that happens, a ceasefire in Gaza could be declared by Sunday.

According to the Turkish news agency, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed this possibility in a press conference with his Syrian counterpart in a media interview.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, who is currently on an official visit to Syria, added that both sides in the ongoing peace talks in Egypt have shown extraordinary seriousness and determination to release Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages.

He further stated that the peace talks discussed the release of prisoners, the limits and conditions for the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the provision of aid to Gaza, and the principles and conditions for a possible ceasefire.

The Turkish foreign minister said that "significant progress has been made so far" on these points and that it is hoped that a final conclusion will be reached soon.

Meanwhile, the Turkish president says that it is not right to impose all the conditions for a ceasefire on Hamas, and that Israel must also stop bombing Gaza.

President Tayyip Erdogan further said that Hamas has adopted a positive attitude towards peace talks, which I consider a very important step. Hamas is ahead of Israel in this matter.

It should be noted that negotiations between Hamas and Israel on President Trump's Gaza peace plan have entered their third day today.
