Gaza ceasefire agreement paves way for Palestinian liberation, says Hamas

The Palestinian resistance organization Hamas attributed the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached with Israel to the Palestinian people and their resistance.


According to international media reports, Hamas says that the ceasefire agreement with Israel to stop the war in Gaza is the result of the 'perseverance' of the Palestinian people and its own 'resistance'.

"The ceasefire agreement is the result of the steadfastness of our great Palestinian people and their courageous resistance in the Gaza Strip for more than 15 months," the interpreter said.

Qatari Prime Minister announces ceasefire agreement

Earlier, at a press conference in Doha, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani announced a Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, saying that the two sides had agreed to the agreement under the joint mediation of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

He said that under the agreement, prisoners will be exchanged for a ceasefire and aid will be delivered to Gaza, while the Israeli government will take measures.

The Qatari Prime Minister said that the agreement between Hamas and Israel will come into effect on Sunday, January 19. The first phase will last 42 days and will see the withdrawal of Israeli forces from urban areas of Gaza to the border, while prisoners and bodies will be exchanged, and the wounded and sick will be allowed to leave.

A statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said that no response had been received from Hamas yet.

The Qatari Prime Minister said that in the first phase, Hamas will release 33 Israeli prisoners, including women, soldiers and the elderly, in exchange for the release of a certain number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

"The details of the second and third phases, upon the full implementation of the first phase, must be implemented gradually by both sides in full, and further bloodshed and war must be avoided."

The Prime Minister said that Qatar will work with Egypt and the United States to ensure the implementation of the agreement so that both sides fully comply with the agreement. He said that Qatar will continue all efforts for the return of displaced families from Gaza, rehabilitation and the people of Gaza.

Key points of the agreement

The agreement will initially provide for a six-week ceasefire, with a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and the release of Israelis held by Hamas in exchange for the release of prisoners by Israel.

The first phase will see the release of 33 Israeli prisoners, including all women, children and those over 50. The Israeli military will restrict itself to 700 meters inside the Gaza border. Israel will release approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 from the Amir prison.
